Theatre503!
According to my assignment sheet, Theatre503 is one of the most exciting studio space theatres in all of London. Under new management since 2002, it actively encourages new writing and new comedy. It is located on Battersea Park Road in magical West End London, which is home to the
greatest concentration of shops, theatres, clubs and many of the city's best restaurants. I could not be more thrilled about my internship placement. After doing a little bit of research this evening, I've found that Theatre503 is a perfect fit for me. Not only do I love the location, but the theatre's mission is to "push the boundaries of what theatre can be and pose the unanswerable questions of our time." It is a place that does new works by new writers and is not afraid to be provocative, irreverent and bold. This mission fits me perfectly because while I love to deal with real life issues, I always strive to look on the bright side of life. Furthermore, I'll belong with this team because I've spent the last year of my theatre life working on several collaborative projects and that is what Theatre503 is all about. They work with writers, both new and experienced, as well as the foremost artists of their generation in order to create new works of theatre, which is exactly what I aspire to do.
Theatre503 also takes older classics and put a new spin on them. Their current show, The Mountaintop, is about the night before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is assassinated. Their next show, which I am really looking forward to seeing, Jane Austen's Guide to Pornography, combines the death of the legendary author with the life of a 21st century pornographic playwright. I mean, need I say more? That show is going to be hilariously amazing. I personally love when artists have the capability of taking something old or classic, like the work of Jane Austen, and putting a creative spin on it to make it their own. That ability resonates with some of the kooky ideas for shows I've written about in my journal.
The company is fearless and ready to work with uncommon, exceptional talent, so hopefully I will be just what they are looking for in an intern. I found out that I have to have an interview with them once I arrive, which I am not really looking forward to, but I will continue to do my research so I'm sure I'll rock it.
Oh, and did I mention the ground floor of Theatre503 is a pub? Score 5 points for Gryffindor!

Wow! I'm so excited for you!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds perfect for you considering you ever appear in shows that totally scare the crap out of me.
Let me know when there's a good show to see and I'll try to come that weekend!
